Middlesex Squash League Rules – Captain’s Summary

Registering players

• At least 5 players must be nominated for each team (3 players for three-person teams)

• The 5 (3) strongest players must be indicated, not necessarily in strength order

[Rule 7.3.1]

• All players who might play during the season, including those with long-term injuries, must be nominated to at least the lowest team

[Rule 7.3.4]

• Nominated players may not play in a lower team that season.

 Player eligibility throughout the season

• The top 5 players must play at least two of the first five fixtures

• Players can “play up” twice for each higher team without getting team tied

[Rule 7.3.9]

• Once a player has played three matches for a team, they will get tied to that team. They can continue to “play up” for higher teams

[Rule 7.3.11]

• To be eligible for the last four fixtures in winter / three fixtures in summer, players must have played at least 2 previous matches (in divisions larger than 8 teams, they need to have played 4 previous matches)

 On the night

• Teams must play in the correct order of strength

• Players may not change places by more than one position relative to each other in any two consecutive fixtures in which the two players concerned are involved

• All players must be present by the end of the third match

• Should a player fail to arrive, that string and all below will be conceded

• The electronic score card must be completed and verified within three days of the match

 Rearranging fixtures

• Fixtures may be rearranged by mutual agreement, but there is no obligation to agree to a change of date

• A request to rearrange should be made as soon as reasonably possible

• No matches can be mutually agreed to remain unplayed

• Double-headers are not permitted
